the mess we made

the stars glisten
through the fog
as I listen
to the sound
of the walls
falling down
around me
the fire burns
so much is lost
and the waves crash
wind swirl
knocking down the essence
of what we could be
who said things
would be perfect
but who said things
would be so hard
pushing and pulling
through the rubble
scrapping and clawing
through the mess we made
trying to find humanity
the love
we shoved
out of existence
is lost forever
as the war continues between us
we fight
we pray
and prey
and kill
for everyone's sake
but our own
when will we come together
and make peace
and leave everyone else
alone
